What Are the Ten Gods?

The "Ten Gods" are not literal deities. They are ten archetypal relationship types derived by comparing every other stem in your chart against your Day Master's element and polarity. They describe how different energies in your chart relate to your core self — like a social network of energetic influences. The ten gods are: Friend (比肩), Rob Wealth (劫财), Output (食神), Hurting Officer (伤官), Direct Wealth (正财), Indirect Wealth (偏财), Direct Officer (正官), Seven Killings (七杀), Direct Resource (正印), and Indirect Resource (偏印).

How They Are Derived

The derivation rule depends on two factors: (1) the Five Element relationship between the other stem and the Day Master (same element, generating it, being generated by it, controlling it, or being controlled by it), and (2) whether the other stem shares the same yin/yang polarity as the Day Master. Same element + same polarity → Friend (比肩). Day Master generates + same polarity → Output (食神). Day Master controls + opposite polarity → Direct Wealth (正财). Controls Day Master + opposite polarity → Direct Officer (正官). Generates Day Master + opposite polarity → Direct Resource (正印). Opposite polarity variants create the indirect forms.

What Each God Represents

Friend (比肩): Peers, siblings, competition, self-reliance. Output (食神): Creativity, talent expression, enjoyment, children. Direct Wealth (正财): Earned income, stable wealth, wife (for men). Direct Officer (正官): Discipline, authority, career, husband (for women). Direct Resource (正印): Knowledge, education, nurturing, mother figure. Each of these five has an "indirect" counterpart with similar but more unconventional qualities.

Reading the Ten Gods

A balanced chart typically has a mix of different gods. Too many Officer stars may indicate an overly rigid personality; too many Output stars may scatter energy. The key is to see which gods dominate and which are missing, then interpret their interactions within the context of your Day Master strength.
